Why study in United States?

EducationUSA's five-step approach starts with researching institutions and financing your studies before completing applications. Compare the award, academic fit and total cost. Check the exact campus and SEVP status where a student visa is needed, rather than relying only on the university name.

Make a strong start

Admission requirements & language

  1. Check the institution's academic prerequisites, application documents and accepted language evidence.
  2. Confirm whether SAT, GRE, GMAT, a portfolio or another assessment is required for your particular course.
  3. Plan transcripts, references, essays and funding documents around the institution's own deadlines.

Language preparation

English test and waiver policies are institution- and course-specific. Check the published requirement instead of assuming every university uses one test.

Intakes & deadlines

Use the institution's entry terms and application deadlines; funding and priority admission deadlines may be earlier.

Your document checklist

Prepare academic records, identity documents, language evidence and any course-specific references, statement or portfolio. Ask the institution about translations and verification. Keep the admission checklist separate from the visa checklist.

A budget you can plan around

Tuition fees & living costs

Compare the full published cost of attendance, including tuition, compulsory fees, accommodation and insurance. Ask whether an award is renewable and which costs remain payable. Keep visa and SEVIS-related fees and travel expenses in the total plan.

Build your study budget

Tuition & course fees
Use the current written fee schedule for your exact course.
Living expenses
Compare accommodation, food, transport and essential personal costs.
Insurance & applications
Include required cover, visa charges and document preparation.
Travel & contingency
Allow for flights, arrival costs and changes in exchange rates.

Budget currency: USD. A living-cost budget and the visa authority’s required financial evidence may be different.

Explore funding

Scholarships & financial support

Research institutional merit awards, need-based support where available, and graduate assistantships appropriate to your programme. Each has separate eligibility and selection rules; a funding offer should be confirmed before relying on it for study or visa evidence.

Record each award’s deadline, documents, coverage and renewal conditions. Keep a workable plan for costs that an award does not cover.

Understand the next step

Student visa & residence guidance

For the relevant F-1 or M-1 route, study at an appropriate SEVP-certified school involves admission and a Form I-20, followed by the applicable SEVIS and visa steps. Check the school, financial documents and responsible U.S. mission's current instructions; an I-20 is not a visa approval.

Use the current official instructions for your nationality, programme and place of application. Admission and immigration decisions are made separately. Nexo can help you organise your questions and preparation; the relevant authority decides the application.

Plan beyond the classroom

Work during study & graduate options

Employment and practical training depend on your student status and the required authorisations. Research CPT, OPT or another appropriate route with the school's designated official and current government guidance before starting work.

Build your study budget around available funds. A possible future job should not be treated as confirmed funding.

Questions about studying in United States

Can I apply with Pakistani qualifications?

Your institution assesses the level, subjects and grades of your qualification. Share your academic history with Nexo, then check the exact course’s published criteria and any recognition or preparatory requirements.

Which language test should I prepare for?

English test and waiver policies are institution- and course-specific. Check the published requirement instead of assuming every university uses one test.

Check admission and visa requirements before booking a test.

How much should I budget?

Request an up-to-date tuition quotation for your chosen course and campus. Add living expenses, insurance, application and visa charges, travel and a contingency. Review the costs section above and confirm financial-evidence requirements with the authority.

Is a scholarship or visa guaranteed?

No. Scholarships have their own eligibility and selection processes, and the immigration authority decides visa applications. An admission offer does not guarantee funding, permission to work or a visa.
